Three ways to work together.

For launching a brand, turning one around (as I did with Kisqali) or accelerating its growth (as with Kesimpta and Promacta). Each one has a defined scope, a fixed timeframe or time commitment, and a clear output. The Launch Readiness Diagnostic is the usual starting point.

30 days

Launch Readiness Diagnostic

The entry point: an independent read of your launch plan, forecast, access strategy and budget, with the risks that matter most, in order, in writing.

What it covers

  • Where the plan will and won’t deliver: market, customers, positioning and forecast
  • Market access, pricing and payer strategy
  • Organization, capabilities and where the money goes
  • The three to five moves that matter most, in order

Best forAny of the three doors. For investors, it works as commercial diligence on a target.

You getA written report and a readout to your leadership team or board.

ThenStop there, or continue into a Launch Sprint or a fractional role. Your choice.

6 weeks

U.S. Launch Sprint

A board-ready U.S. launch plan, built with your team in six weeks.

What it covers

  • Build, partner or co-promote: the U.S. commercial model and the case for it
  • Market access, pricing and payer strategy, starting before approval
  • Launch sequencing, the first U.S. hires and the commercial budget
  • KPIs and an operating cadence your board can follow

Best forBiotechs approaching approval, and companies outside the U.S. bringing a medicine to the U.S.

You getA board-ready U.S. launch plan, built in weekly working sessions with your team and closed with a final readout.

ThenExecute with your team, or keep me on as fractional commercial leader through launch.

1–2 days a week

Fractional commercial leader

Senior commercial leadership inside your company, part time, to launch, turn around or accelerate a brand. Equity option available.

What it covers

  • Own the commercial plan and the operating cadence
  • Build and lead the team; set targets and KPIs
  • Represent the commercial function to the board, investors and partners
  • Hire your full-time leader when the time comes, and hand over

Best forCompanies that need a senior commercial leader before they need, or can find, a full-time one, including for a turnaround or a growth push; and investors placing one in a portfolio company.

You getA senior commercial leader at 1–2 days a week. An equity option is available alongside a cash fee.

ThenScale the time up or down as the company grows, or hand over to a full-time hire.

How we work together

One accountable lead.

Led personally

I lead every engagement personally, drawing on three $1B+ brands at Novartis, and stay accountable for the plan and the result.

Proposal first

A short scoping call, then a written proposal with the scope, timing, output and fees. No published prices.

Confidential by default

An NDA before details are shared, a conflict check before any engagement, and no client names without written permission.

Big-pharma judgment, boutique scope

You get the person who has done it, not a team that studied it. Fixed scope, a written output, and a fee you can approve without a board vote.

What an engagement can look like (illustrative, not a client case): a European biotech preparing its first U.S. launch.

  1. Pressure-test the access plan and the forecast.
  2. Build vs. partner vs. co-promote, with the economics of each.
  3. The first U.S. hires, the launch budget and a 100-day plan, presented to the board.

The output: a board-ready plan your team can run.

Why Scalar

Why not a big consultancy, a fractional marketer or a vendor?

Why not a big consultancy?

You get an excellent plan and a junior team to write it, and the work stops at the readout. I have led three $1B+ brands, and I can stay to run the plan.

Why not a fractional marketer?

A launch fails on access, field size and forecast as often as on message. I have led all of it, plus the P&L.

Why not a services vendor?

I don’t sell field forces, hubs or data, so my build-vs-partner advice has no downstream agenda.

Coming to the U.S. from abroad?

I have led brands in Europe, run a $400M P&L across Latin America for Sandoz, and signed 10 licensing and distribution deals, so I can judge build vs. partner from both sides of the table.

Senior specialists

Led personally. Senior specialists when the work calls for it.

I lead every engagement personally. I bring in trusted senior specialists when a project needs them, for a defined scope you agree in advance, under the same NDA and conflict check.

Questions

Before you book.

Where should we start?

Usually with the Launch Readiness Diagnostic. It gives both sides a clear, written view of the business before anyone commits to more, and it is useful on its own.

How are fees set?

After a short scoping call, in a written proposal. Fees depend on scope and timing, so they are not published.

How much time does a fractional leader spend with us?

One to two days a week, set in the proposal and adjusted as the company’s needs change.

Do you take equity?

There is an equity option for the fractional role, alongside a cash fee. It is agreed case by case.

Why not hire a full-time commercial leader?

Often you should, eventually. A fractional leader makes sense before the full-time role is affordable or clear, or while you search. Handing over to a full-time hire, and helping recruit one, is part of the plan.

How do you handle confidentiality and conflicts?

An NDA before details are shared, a conflict check before any engagement, and client names are never shared without written permission.

How do you use AI?

To speed up research, analysis and first drafts, so senior time goes to judgment. Confidential data goes into AI tools only with your approval.
